Due to the progression of caries and gum diseases the teeth may reach a condition where it cannot be saved by any treatments. When such a condition occurs it is better to remove them before they harbor infection or cause pain. The teeth may be grossly decayed with caries that have spread to the roots or it maybe the wisdom tooth that do not have enough space in the oral cavity to erupt.
The most common cause of mobile teeth however is due to gum diseases wherein the bone which holds the tooth in place gets destroyed due to infection, improper oral hygiene or other systemic factors resulting in the tooth becoming loose. In such cases it is best to remove the tooth and on the basis of the removing bone structure an artificial tooth will be placed.
During the extraction an anesthetic injection will be administered to numb the tissues and the tooth to relieve any pain that will be experienced. Once the tissues are numb the tissues are slowly peeled away with the instrument to gain access to the tooth that has to be removed. Using forceps the tooth is gripped and slowly moved sideways and removed. Once the tooth is removed the area is packed with a sterilized cotton dressing. A medicament may also be placed. Medicine will be prescribed to manage the pain following the surgery. In some cases medication is prescribed two to three days before the surgery to control any infection that maybe present.
Before removal it is very important that u let us know your present systemic conditions and the medications you might be taking as some drugs are known to interact with each other and can be harmful to the body. Also in some conditions like Cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes. Etc. extra care must be taken.
